Our family have lived in this beautiful countryside for over 20 years, we have a vast amount of knowledge about the area and are happy to recommend walks, hacks and places to visit. Nothing is too much trouble - if you have any questions, please ask!

The house is owned by Dawnay Estate and was built in 1846. In recent history, the property was used as an equestrian outfit and smallholding. David Jeffels, a Shire horse farmer, lived here around 70 years ago – he was an avid competitor with his Shires; you can see the prizes left in The Tack Room from the 1950s, along with other artefacts found on the property. Cottage Farm Stables was a riding school for many years before we arrived and developed it into a private livery yard and holiday destination.

Kate has been keeping horses here all her life and breeds, trains and produces sports horses. She has a vast knowledge about safety and making your furry friends feel at home. She is also the guide who will navigate you on your horse back tours.

Living sustainably is important to us. Here at Acre & Shelter ‘The Tack Room’ has been sensitively designed and restored using wood from the farm, reclaimed materials and English antiques. We have used upcycled and reclaimed materials in the construction of the handcrafted outdoor yurts. Any surplus food is fed to the chickens or dogs. All plastic, paper and glass is recycled. Rainwater is collected in water butts and can be used for the horses water, washing boots etc. All our toiletries and cleaning products comply with our sustainable ethos. Everything we do aims to support our local community and preserve the environment so that it can be enjoyed by future generations.

Reviews

"Our first pony glamping experience and it was fabulous!! The yurt and all the camping facilities were brilliant we had everything we needed, a lot of thought had gone in to all the finishing touches. We loved that the horses were so close we could hear them munching while we were falling asleep. Kate took us on a hack through the beautiful countryside when we arrived and we also need to thank two of Kate’s lovely liveries we met on the second day when we were a little bit lost who let us join them on the most amazing ride. Such a lovely location and so much more to explore, thank you Kate and Adam we can’t wait to come back." Rachel Morris & Friends

"Absolute horsey heaven with fantastic company in the most amazing horsey paradise in North Yorkshire - Pony Glamping. We’ve been to XC at Carr Farm, to Filey beach and for the been on the most stunning beautiful hacks I’ve ever seen!! Crossing streams, sleeping in a yurt with Mr Bailey and his friends roaming around outside, pinching my cider, joining our picnic like an overgrown dog We slept in the coolest yurt and I learned so many tips that I am going to bring hone to be more eco-friendly!! The campsite was really clever with so many lovely touches, the yurt had an Africa theme, we showered in a converted Horsebox (really creative and great fun!!). Superbly situated with a pub and tea rooms a short stroll away. At night we sat round the camp fire and watched our horses through the window and saw them staring at us when we had to siphon off the alcohol in the eco-toilet outside!! It was such an adventure and I cannot recommend this holiday enough to anyone who is thinking of planning a group weekend away with horsey friends! We are booking for next year and I’m even going to take the hubby and dogs (yes it’s dog friendly too!!) for another weekend as there are so many walks, things to find in the woods to look at, and many other things to explore we will need at least a few visits to see it all! I can imagine this little piece of horsey heaven is going to be fully booked as soon as word gets around (it’s a new venture and so incredibly cool that it will be fully booked before Christmas comes for next year so be quick or be disappointed!! Thank you to the lovely couple Kate and Adam for such a brilliant, magical few days with fabulous company both Human and horses!! Can’t wait for next year!!! " Andrea Richardson & Friends

Our first pony camping experience and we absolutely loved it. The facilities are balanced out between eco conscious whilst still providing home comforts. The hacking is out of this world with stubble fields as far as the eye can see. We loved it and will definitely back for more. Thanks so much for helping us create some special memories for our girls." Jo Gray & Family
